There are no coincidences in D.C.

March 2, 2017

“If anyone had any doubt about why outgoing President Obama will be staying in Washington D.C. after the inauguration, today’s events …should make it perfectly clear.” Musings From Street Level, “Barack Obama – Alt-president?”   January 4, 2017.

OK, it’s poor form to quote yourself, but it fits today’s events. The quote related to Obamacare, but the observation is as applicable now as it was then.

With the “breaking news” that Attorney General Sessions is now the latest Trump official to be the target of an organized campaign apparently designed to delegitimize the Trump administration, the picture is becoming clearer.

President Trump got high praise for his speech Tuesday, and the left has to find a way to counter his momentum.

This is the newest spike strip.

The New York Times is reporting that calls for an independent investigation of the new AG should now be assigned to outside counsel have intensified following the revelation that AG Sessions met with the Russian ambassador while still a sitting senator. Oh yes, and he shook hands with a Russian official once too.

It is definitely time for an in-depth and fully independent investigation related to the election, but it shouldn’t stop with Senator Sessions.

Perhaps such an investigation would reveal why then-President Obama “…rushed to preserve intelligence of Russian hacking.” as was reported in this New York Times article yesterday.

That brings up an interesting question. What else could a special prosecutor or investigation turn up?

If the President Obama’s Justice Department had such damning evidence as the article would suggest, and had apparently been compiling it for quite some time, why not make it public before he left office?

Wouldn’t that have been his duty as Commander-in-Chief?

That he didn’t speaks more to politics than it does to the security of the election.

It has been clear ever since the election that there was going to be an all-out assault on President Trump.  In fact, while no one is actually shooting yet, this is not so far removed from the kind of violent conflict more usually typified by headlines about the struggles by the Contras to overthrow the Sandinistas in Nicaragua, back in the 1980’s and 90s.

Maybe there is fire under the smoke.  It’s fairly likely that Russia did at the very least care about the outcome of the election, given that they had been having a lot of success in intimidating the U.S. due to now ex-President Obama’s real or feigned inability to deal with Vladimir Putin effectively.

We still don’t know what exactly then-President Obama meant when he was caught on a hot mic telling the outgoing Russian president Medvedev that he would have more flexibility after the 2012 election.

Maybe a truly independent investigation might be able to answer that question as well.
