TGIF – November 2, 2018

November 2, 2018

The roots of incivility.

Maxine Waters was filmed warning financial institutions that  if she became head of the Finance Committee, she “…would to you what you have done to us”

That had a chillingly familiar ring. Waters, like many veterans of the civil rights struggles of the 1960’s  has been operating in that mental construct since she was 20 years old, so it might be wise to take her seriously.

For those of you too young to have lived through that time, and that’s most of you, there were two factions during that itme.

There was the Martin Luther King faction, which advocated for peacefully achieving equality,  and what could be loosely called the black power faction, advocating for achieving equality through force.  The latter group often advocated for payback, essentially revenge, as well as equality, In short, to do to whites as whites had done to them and their forebears..

When Dr. King was assassinated, that latter group grew exponentially.

When you hear the constant accusations of racism, even when the only sign of that is a difference of opinion, you are hearing echoes of the violence of the 1960’s and ’70s..For some people of that generation, there is no such thing as adequate reparation, and never will be.

In some ways it’s very like the hereditary feud of the Hatfields and McCoys, and perhaps like that feud it will not end until there aren’t enough people left to pass the poison down through the generations.

When push comes to shove..

The good news is, there were 250,000 new jobs added last month.

The bad news is, most of the 4,000 to 10,000 “caravaners” will not be able to fill any of them.

Leaving all the hyperbolic rhetoric aside, any of the people vowing to get into the U.S. illegally will never be able to present a green card and avail themselves of all the jobs without having to scatter like bugs every time they see a uniform.

It seems like that alone would be a good reason to do things the right way, but maybe that’s just too much common sense for people to handle.

Best part of Tuesday’s election?

The robocalls will stop.  It will be nice to actually answer a phone again.
