The promise he has to keep.

December 11, 2018

If you had the TV on this morning you got a preview of how the next two years are going to go, politics-wise.

Although would-be House speaker Nancy Pelosi was highly uncomfortable with the proceedings being televised (it IS called transparency, old girl), the viewers got to watch President Trump throwing down the gauntlet over funding for the border wall.

That doesn’t mean he’s going to get the funding. After all, let us not forget that Pelosi calls the wall “immoral, ”  and some wishy-washy Republicans have never backed the President up in closing off the border.

Nevertheless, out of all the promises candidate Trump made, this is the one he has to make every effort to fulfill.

Schukie Schumer tried to pretend that the “Trump shutdown” was somehow going to be a problem for the President.

In the first place, Republicans always get the blame from Democrats for any shutdown, so that was a hollow threat.

Secondly, if Trump has any designs on a second term, this is a fight he has to have.

Americans who have ever supported a closed border don’t see it as either inhumane or optional.

Take “Helen” for example. Although she lives in La Mesa, CA. she has had first-hand experience  with the effects of illegal immigration.

“A year or so ago, my dryer was broke, so I hung my wash out on the clothesline. About an hour later, I looked out the window, and there was this Mexican guy pulling all the Levis and shirts off the line. I ran out to stop him, but he flipped me off, jumped in an old beater car and took off. I estimate he stole about $150, maybe $200 worth of clothes. You’re damn right I want a wall!”

There are still a couple of weeks until Democrats take over the House, but no one is holding their breath waiting for Congress to write the President a $5 billion dollar check.

Even so, everyone expects him to give it the old college try.
