TGIF – June 28, 2019.
People who voted against Hillary rather than for Trump in 2016 might have been looking at the debates for someone they could support next year.
From what we heard after Thursday’s second debate ended, they haven’t found such a person yet.
Some comments went like this:
“I like Joe Biden, but he’s been in second place most of his life, and he still is.”
“Are Democrats ever going to get over calling everyone they disagree with a racist (speaking of Kamala Harris)?
“Can you imagine having a scolding school marm as the President (re: Elizabeth Warren)?
“She has a chip on her shoulder against whites the size of a redwood (re: Kamala Harris).
“It’ll be a cold day in hell before I vote for open borders, pay for supporting illegal immigrants, or hand my guns over to the government.”
“I don’t know anyone who is working 2 or 3 jobs to survive anymore unless they want to. Why can’t candidates just tell the truth?”
In short, many crossover and independent voters we listened to are so far unimpressed with the 2020 Democrat lineup.
Of particular note is these are not members of the much vaunted Trump base. These people are genuinely looking for someone other than Trump to follow for the next 18 months.
With the first of a dozen scheduled debates in the rear view mirror, it sounds like they might still be looking in November next year.
